Charities and voluntary organisations, nominated by Fun Run entrants in this year’s Great Midlands Fun Run, will benefit to the tune of an astonishing £263,150 from this year’s event.
Added to the £2.83million distributed since the first Great Midlands Fun Run in 2003, the total now stands at £3.1million.
When this is added to the total generated by the event between 1982 – 2002, when it was known as the Royal Sutton Fun Run, the total distributed now exceeds £4.35million.
Event Director, Tracey Spare, who announced this year’s total at the annual Presentation on Sunday 19th November, confirmed that 228 charities and voluntary organisations will financially benefit this year.
“Our annual Presentation enabled the Fun Run to publically thank our wonderful commercial partners before we confirmed the recipient of the Cookes Storage Service Team Award.
“That announcement was followed by us starting to distribute money to some of those organisations nominated by Fun Run entrants to financially benefit from their sponsor money.
“I’m thrilled by this year’s total. We’re continuing to live in a challenging economic climate, which is becoming even tougher with inflation creeping up and little sign of any significant increase in incomes. The budget on Wednesday 22 November confirmed these observations.
“To be able to add to add a further £263,150 to the overall total is, in my view, a remarkable achievement and I can only thank everyone who contributed to the continuing success of the event.”
Registration for the 2018 Great Midlands Fun Run will open on Sunday, 4 February, with the 16th staging of the event scheduled for Sunday, 3 June.
