One of the highest individual fundraisers, in the history of the Great Midlands Fun Run, is again aiming high in terms of fundraising through his participation in this year’s event on Sunday, 2 June.
Andy Perks, who provided a passionate insight, during last November’s Fun Run Presentation, behind his extraordinary fundraising in recent years, hopes to top £2500 for the Cancer Support Centre located in Lindridge Road, Royal Sutton Coldfield.
Andy explained: “I had a challenging upbringing as a child, which I believe is the driving force behind my passion in helping those in the community who most need help.
“My job as Business Development Manager with Fun Run Supporting Sponsor Inktree, means I meet a lot people every day of my working life and they don’t escape my request for sponsorship.
“They’ve been incredibly generous over recent years in helping me raise in excess of £15,000 for various charities through participating in the Fun Run.”
Andy is also a key member of the BNI Alliance, which meets weekly in Birmingham and its members don’t escape Andy’s approaches for sponsorship.
“No one is immune from my polite sponsorship requests,” explains Andy with a broad smile.
His approach obviously works, as Andy has already raised in excess of £1800 in just over three weeks since he entered for this year’s event at Cookes Furniture on the opening day of registration.
Jackie Price, Centre Manager, Cancer Support Centre said: “We’re thrilled Andy has chosen us as his charity for 2019. Andy has raised an extraordinary sum of money for a number or charities and voluntary organisations in recent years and the money he is raising will help us to continue to support people who are affected by cancer across the West Midlands and in particular Sutton Coldfield, Erdington, Tamworth and Lichfield.
“Inevitably the demand for our services is growing every year and, as we do not receive any money from the NHS or Government. We need to raise £3500 each week to ensure we are able to provide support to those who come through our door. This means we are relying more and more on the generosity of people such as Andy Perks undertaking fundraising to support us.
Andy Perks concluded saying: “I’ve visited the Cancer Support Centre in Lindridge Road, met members of their team and charity volunteers, so appreciate how valuable the services they can offer are to people across the Sutton Coldfield, Erdington, Lichfield & Tamworth.”
