Grammar school registers its first ever Fun Run team entry
A lower sixth form student at Bishop Vesey’s Grammar School has taken on the role of co-ordinating the school’s first team entry into the Great Midlands Fun Run.
Beth Winterbottom and her family have been regular participants in the Great Midlands Fun Run raising thousands of pounds for charity.Beth, a former student at Sutton Coldfield Grammar School for Girls, moved to continue her studies at Bishop Vesey’s Grammar School last September and was determined to promote the Fun Run within her new school.
“In recent years, Sutton Coldfield Grammar School for Girls had entered large teams in the Fun Run and raised tens of thousands of pounds for various charities.
“As far as I was aware, Bishop Vesey’s Grammar School had never entered a team in the Fun Run. Having witnessed the huge benefits both in terms of financially supporting charities and developing stronger relationships within the school during my time at Sutton Girls, I was determined to start a similar project at my new school.
“It’s early days, but I have the support of some of the teaching staff and fellow sixth form students and we’re slowly gathering some momentum in terms of recruiting team members. Now that we’re through half term, I am going to encourage as many students and staff as possible to register before the 30 March deadline.
“Each school house has chosen to support its own charity, so there’s a degree of competition in terms of which house will raise the most sponsor money.
Fun Run Event Director, Tracey Spare added: “Beth and her family have been wonderful supporters of the Fun Run and to see Beth develop this initiative at her new school is testament to her drive and enthusiasm. Hopefully in her two years at Bishop Vesey’s Grammar School, she can lay the foundations for the school to enter a large team and raise significant sums of money for their chosen charities.”
