#GMFR 2019 is attracting international interest from Ireland, Scandinavia and the USA.

Entrants from Atlanta and Pittsburgh in the United States along with an entry from Sweden and Ireland are joining those from local areas including Lichfield, Tamworth, Sutton Coldfield, Walsall, Burton on Trent, Solihull, Coventry, Nuneaton and across Birmingham on the start line of the 17th Great Midlands Fun Run.

Fun Run event director Tracey Spare said: “I’m not under any illusions that people are travelling thousands of miles to simply participate in the Great Midlands Fun Run. But it’s great to see that people, who obviously have some connection with the royal town, are planning their visits to coincide with participating in the event on Sunday, 2 June.

“Whilst the majority of entries are inevitably arriving from within 25 miles of Sutton Coldfield including many from Lichfield/Tamworth where the event is staged, we have already processed applications from entrants living in Newcastle upon Tyne, Norwich, London, Manchester, Liverpool, Wales and Scotland.

“I constantly hear people refer to the ‘wonderful community spirit’ on Fun Run day and the interest from across the UK and abroad certainly adds to the unique atmosphere around the town, as does the involvement of many young people who help at the event including those from all sectors of the Scouts, Guides, Sea Rangers, Sea Cadets and Explorers & more recently Sutton Coldfield Adventure Unit.

“The Fun Run has enjoyed a strong and invaluable association with the scouting movement since the first event in 1982 when it was known as the Royal Sutton Fun Run.

“Hand-delivering nearly 2000 information notices to residents living on the course; distributing and collecting course equipment; marshalling on the course; manning drinks stations; assisting with road closures and providing radio communications around the route. All vital aspects of the event.”

Registration for this year’s Fun Run closes in just over one week – Monday 25th March, unless all available 6500 places are booked in advance of that date.

Online registration via the link on www.greatmidlandsfunrun.org or you can use the postal application on this page to secure your place in this year’s event.

The message from organisers is ‘Don’t’ delay enter today.’
